The following email was sent to the owner of a property built by W.T. Hannan at 428 Wesley Avenue, Ocean City, NJ. This home was completed in 2008 - and the owner is letting us know what renters had to say:

Jim,

We are looking at OC rentals for a possible Thanksgiving weekend stay. Is yours available? If so, what are the terms?

By the way, I really appreciated the quality of the construction details and choices of materials used at your property. Everything spoke of quality workmanship and attention to detail. From how the wall paint was cut-in where it met painted trim to how the door locksets clicked nicely when closed to how the baseboard was mitered around the bullnose wall corners. All very nice. The installation of the porch vinyl decking and other vinyl porch material details there were also impressive.

Being an architect can be a curse as it’s almost impossible for me to not give everything a good look-over to see how things were put together. Drives my wife nuts. Whoever built your place, from what was visible to this occupant, knew what they were doing and did a good job doing it. We were left with the impression that it was a well-built place. I suspect that you are happy with this home.

We enjoyed staying there.

Thanks.

Lloyd and family.

Working with Bill and Kim Hannan in planning and building our home has been an extremely exciting and rewarding experience. Both Bill and Kim have combined personal commitment, professionalism, and friendliness in their relationship with us. From our initial meeting, Bill stressed the quality of construction along with the craftsmanship of his team. He followed this by taking us through a home under construction so that we could see firsthand the quality of his work.

Given the reality of storms at the Jersey shore, having a house built to withstand hurricanes was critical to us. While designing our house with the architect, Bill was very helpful and always gave excellent advice. It was very important to us that we were able to enjoy the process with the Hannans. Bill’s suppliers for cabinets, flooring, and appliances offered high quality and great value. We found them to be very knowledgeable and accommodating.

Each time we visited the job site, Bill made a point of discussing the progress in great detail, showing us around, and asking for our input on items such as lighting and bathroom fixtures. Along the way, we decided to include some upgrades and were pleased at the reasonable cost of these additions.

Every step of the way we saw great value in the house being built. Bill’s and Kim's integrity and thoughtful advice, as well as their pride in delivering a quality home, were absolutely outstanding. Throughout the process, our trust in them and respect for them continued to grow. Along the way friends commented to us that we were building a “legacy home”. What the Hannans have built for us is truly a “legacy home” that our children and grandchildren will enjoy for years to come.

Thank you, Bill & Kim!!

Hi Kim and Bill,

Hope this e-mail finds you safe and your possessions spared from the ravages of Sandy.

Just wanted to thank you for building me such a fabulous home that withstood the first and, hopefully, last major storm. Pete and I had all the confidence in the world in the quality of the construction of our home. When we had the opportunity to visit our home yesterday we were thrilled by what we found...not a stone out of place.

Once again, thank you for building me such a wonderful home!

Giselle

Bill and Kim,
The last thing I expected Thanksgiving morning were frantic phone messages from my mother saying that she had no water in the Brigantine house, and she did not know how she was going to have Thanksgiving dinner there with my disabled brother. Not being able to reach me or my wife since we were on vacation out of state, she immediately sought out the help of our neighbor, Bill Hannan. Bill and his wife, Kim, have already been accustomed to receiving emails and phone calls from us about home emergencies/projects in the past. They were always generous with their time, advice, and help and have even personally handled several projects for the house as well as at my brother's residence, which is also on the island. Despite the fact that it was Thanksgiving, Bill voluntarily went under the house into the crawlspace to see what could be causing the water stoppage. Bill quickly determined and fixed the problem, saving Thanksgiving dinner for my mother and brother. My Mom calls him her"hero". My wife and I are happy to call he and his wife friends. Dependable, reliable, and selfless: we would never call upon anyone else. Thank you.

Dear Bill,
What a lucky day it was for us to discover your Dunes Model home. We found it as you just started construction and was able to see and be a part of each phase of construction. We were impressed at the quality of materials you used and delighted when you put us in contact with the granite, cabinet and flooring people to select our own custom furnishings. All selections were top grade. You were patient and pleasant each time we made a slight deviation to your plans and added some of our special requests at little cost. You were on site everyday and whenever we stopped by, you proudly took us through the new construction answering our questions and always surprising us with new features. Our house was not finished when the super storm – Hurricane Sandy arrived. No worries; we received no wind or water damage and your boasts of “hurricane proof windows” and “flood vents” on the house foundation certainly passed the test. Settlement took place as planned with no storm related delays and the house in perfect condition. We have been in our house now for a week and still marvel at the space, beauty and solid construction in which you built this house. We are looking forward to special times and life long memories for our children and grandchildren “at the beach” in this house for many years. Stop by anytime. You will find us relaxing on one of our three decks. How satisfying it must be for you to have a vocation that impacts so many families in such positive ways. You are an honest, kind man and having you and your team as our builders was a pleasure on so many levels.
Sincerely,
Gene and Sharon Malone

Thanks so much, Bill, for spending your very valuable time to advise me on those two properties recently. I genuinely appreciate your generosity in sharing your expertise & guidance.

Sincerely,
Carol

For our boys growing up the Ventnor house was an important part of the summer, so as they grew older and our family numbers increased, the decision to raze the small one-story house and build a larger, family friendly home was easy. How to design and build the house that met our needs was another question all together. Dealing with the small lot size and over-coming the possible zoning issues became the hurdle. But where do you start when the entire concept is foreign to you?

One day in a conversation with a business associate I mentioned what my wife (Kathy ) and I had discussed regarding our summer house. He immediately said I have the perfect guy for your project. He's local and has the experience of building at the shore-- Bill Hannan. I called Bill that very next week and from our beginning conversation I sensed I had found the solution. Bill came out to our house and discussed the options. We were impressed with his approach and the sensitivity to family dynamics (the house being in the family since the early 70's when Kathy's parents purchased it) as he explained the options we faced. Bill suggested a local designer from Linwood as a possible architect for our project, Terri Cummings. Kathy and I interviewed her for several hours discussing our vision for the project and came away knowing Bill's suggestion was right on. We now had the perfect team in place. With no building experience Kathy and I placed the vision of our new house in Bill's hands.

What took place over the next months was a wonderful transformation from concept to a realization our dreams. Bill's teams' attention to detail and creativity was top rate. Bill's workers and sub-contractors were courteous and responsive to our needs. Work was done as scheduled, keeping the project on pace. We were both impressed with Bill's willingness to discuss even the most minor detail and his responsiveness to our most basic questions. Bill's follow up after we moved and his concern that we were total pleased clearly set him a part from other contractors.

From concept to design to construction to completion this was a seamless and headache-free experience. Thanks to Bill Hannan and his staff for a job well done.

Kim,

Hope all is well with you! I don't know if I have thanked you enough for all you have done. I have learned over the the last several months you are a great help to Bill and in turn have been a great help in completing our home. I thank you for all your hard work in making this house turn out exactly like we planned.

We know Bill Hannan for approximately five years.. What started out as purely a business relationship has proven to be much more. Bill built our home on 5th Street South in Brigantine. We owned a home on the island and we were jogging past the house one day and went in the house every day for a week trying to find one reason NOT to put our existing house on the market and buy this one. We could not; we absolutely fell in love with the house the first time we walked through it! The house is not only built extremely well but it is also outstandingly attractive. From the minute you walk in the front door you know it's a "classy place". But that is not the real selling feature of a home built by Bill Hannan...it is the "man behind his work". In the past five years, Bill has gone beyond any builder's responsibility. The following is just one example of that. Our first Thanksgiving weekend in the new home we discovered we had no heat. It was the eve of the holiday and our whole family was with us: daughters, husbands and grandchildren (four at the time and number five was on the way). We called Bill at about 9pm and he left what he was doing to come over to see what was wrong. And what was wrong had nothing to do with his construction or responsibility , birds had built a nest in the exhaust pipe of the furnace. Bill worked on the problem till it was fixed. His only payment was a glass of wine!

In our estimation this was way "above and beyond". As far as we are concerned, Bill is a rarity in this world, he goes the extra mile. He is honest, fair, reliable and takes pride in his work. It is a pleasure and honor to know him as an outstanding builder and now a person whom we consider to be a dear friend.

As a Retired Philadelphia Police Officer I worked and lived under the motto of " Honor, Integrity and Service " for 16 years. In my opinion these three words also describe William Hannan Builder and Contractor. Bill has done many projects for me and our relationship has grown from a merely professional one to a profound friendship. I would highly recommend him for any endeavor large or small.

Respectfully,
